The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority recently conducted an inspection visit to Kabalega International Airport, signaling a major step toward the completion of one of Uganda’s most strategic aviation projects. The visit took place on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
The inspection team was led by Dr. Steven B. K. Kavuma, the Board Chairperson, who applauded the contractor for the visible progress made on the site. He described the work as impressive and noted that the pace reflects strong commitment to delivering the project on time.

During the assessment, UCAA confirmed that construction works at the airport have reached 97 percent completion. This level of progress places the facility firmly in its final phase, with only a few components left before full readiness.

Kabalega International Airport has been developed as a Code 4F facility, meaning it is capable of handling large and wide-body aircraft. This design positions the airport as a key gateway for international travel and cargo operations, especially within the Albertine region.

Several major facilities have already been completed at the airport. These include a parallel runway, a modern cargo terminal, a fully equipped fire station, and a meteorological facility to support safe and efficient flight operations.

Plans are also underway to install a mobile control tower, which will enhance air traffic control services as the airport prepares to begin operations. This will ensure proper coordination of aircraft movements during the early operational stages.

Meanwhile, construction of the airport access road is still ongoing and currently stands at 44 percent completion. Authorities noted that the road remains a critical link for accessibility and future economic activity around the airport.

UCAA indicated that all remaining works are expected to be completed by March 2026. Once finalized, Kabalega International Airport is expected to play a transformative role in boosting trade, investment, and regional development in western Uganda.
