Uganda Airlines has officially launched the search for a new Chief Executive Officer, a move that highlights an important turning point for the country’s national carrier. The decision by the Board of Directors reflects the airline’s ambition to secure strong leadership that can guide it through expansion, competition, and long-term stability in the aviation industry.
The airline is targeting a leader with solid experience and a clear understanding of how modern airlines operate. This role goes beyond routine management, as the successful candidate will shape the airline’s overall direction, performance, and reputation both regionally and internationally.
Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in business, aviation management, engineering, finance, law, or another related field. A master’s degree is mandatory, showing the airline’s focus on academic strength alongside professional skill. Additional aviation-related qualifications will be considered a strong advantage.
Professional experience carries significant weight in the selection process. Uganda Airlines requires more than ten years of senior-level experience in aviation management. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to work closely with a board of directors, especially within structured and regulated environments.
The airline is searching for someone well-versed in airline economics, route development, aviation regulations, and safety management systems. Financial oversight, operational efficiency, and the ability to lead organizational change are also critical. Personal qualities such as integrity, ethical conduct, and good judgement are emphasized as essential traits.
The CEO will take on the role of accountable manager for both the Air Operator Certificate and the Approved Maintenance Organisation. Reporting directly to the board, the new leader will supervise daily operations and ensure all activities align with approved strategies and financial plans.
On the commercial side, the role includes building partnerships with other airlines through code-share agreements, increasing revenue streams, and pushing forward business recovery and growth initiatives. Maintaining a strong safety culture and ensuring full regulatory compliance will remain central responsibilities.
The CEO will also work closely with key stakeholders including government bodies, ICAO, IATA, and other aviation players. As Uganda Airlines continues to expand its route network and strengthen connectivity, experts believe this leadership search signals the airline’s determination to position itself strongly in an increasingly competitive market.
