Faith and Leadership Crowned with Honor at St. Paul’s Cathedral

A spirit of joy and deep reverence filled St. Paul’s Cathedral, Ibanda as two distinguished public servants were formally installed as Lay Canons of the Diocese of North West Ankole.

The occasion marked an important milestone for Justice Jamson Karemani, Resident Judge of the Kiboga High Court Circuit, and Byengoma Rosette, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs. It was a day that beautifully blended faith, leadership, and service.

The installation service was presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese, Amos Magezi, who led the congregation in prayer and thanksgiving. The cathedral was filled with clergy, members of the judiciary, government officials, family, friends, and Christians from across the Diocese. Many gathered not only to witness the ceremony, but also to celebrate lives dedicated to both God and country.

Their journey to this moment began earlier during the First Meeting of the Third Synod of the Diocese, where they were named Lay Canon Designates. The recognition was given in appreciation of their strong Christian testimony and their outstanding contribution to society. The formal installation now confirmed their new responsibility within the Cathedral and the wider Church.

In his address, Bishop Magezi spoke warmly about the character of the newly installed Lay Canons. He praised their integrity, faithfulness, and record of public service. He reminded them that the title of Lay Canon is not simply a reward, but a calling that demands continued humility, wisdom, and dedication to God’s work.

The Bishop emphasized that the Church looks to its Lay Canons as pillars of support in advancing its mission. Their role includes encouraging spiritual growth, strengthening church programs, and serving as examples of Christian leadership in everyday life. It is a position of honor, but also one of active responsibility.

Before the ceremony, Justice Karemani and Ms. Rosette attended a one-day retreat at Golden View Hotel in Ibanda. The retreat provided time for reflection, prayer, and guidance about the duties attached to their new office. It served as a moment of spiritual preparation, helping them understand the deeper meaning of their commitment.
The Anglican tradition regards the office of Lay Canon as both honorary and functional. It is reserved for devoted lay Christians who have demonstrated faith in action. Those entrusted with this role are expected to support the ministry of the Church while continuing to serve faithfully in their professional lives.

As the service came to a close, there was a shared sense of gratitude and hope. The installation of Justice Karemani and Ms. Rosette stood as a powerful reminder that strong faith can guide leadership in every sector of society. Their new chapter as Lay Canons reflects a life where devotion to God and dedication to public duty walk hand in hand.
