URA’s Swift Intelligence and Bold Action Crush Smuggling in Mayuge

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has once again shown its strong commitment in the fight against smuggling. On February 11th, 2026, the Malaba enforcement team carried out a well-planned operation in Mayuge district that successfully disrupted a smuggling racket. Acting on reliable information from trusted informers, the officers moved quickly to stop the illegal transportation of goods that were being delivered to clients inland.

According to reports, the suspected smugglers had loaded several goods into two vehicles and were transporting them from Busia through Namayingo to Mayuge district. The operation appeared carefully organized, but the enforcement team was already monitoring their movements. With proper planning and teamwork, the officers prepared an ambush to intercept the vehicles before the goods could reach their final destination.

When the smugglers realized that their plan was about to fail, they attempted to hide the vehicles. However, URA officers acted swiftly and managed to surround and intercept them. The operation led to the recovery of a Mitsubishi Pajero and a Toyota Progress loaded with goods that included tyres, bags of rice, cartons of wheat flour, and over 100 wireless internet routers. These goods were being transported without proper declaration, denying the government vital revenue.

This successful operation sends a clear message that smuggling is no longer a safe or profitable business. URA continues to strengthen its intelligence network and enforcement efforts to protect Uganda’s economy. By stopping illegal trade, the authority promotes fair business practices and ensures that taxes are collected to support national development. URA encourages all traders to follow the law, declare their goods properly, and contribute to the growth of the country.
