Frequent Power Outages! UEDCL Warns Against Bush Fires in Northern Region

Share This:

In the Northern Region, uncontrolled bush burning is causing serious damage to electricity infrastructure. The fires have destroyed critical power lines and equipment, resulting in frequent power outages that affect homes, businesses, and essential services.

Many communities are struggling without stable electricity, showing how costly and dangerous these fires have become.
The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has raised concerns about this growing problem. To address it, UEDCL partnered with the Fourth Estate to hold a press briefing aimed at educating the public. The briefing explained how bush burning directly affects electricity supply and called on communities to take collective responsibility in protecting power infrastructure.

UEDCL emphasized that keeping electricity running is a shared responsibility. People are urged to prevent bush fires, report any uncontrolled fires quickly, and follow safety rules to avoid damage. By working together, communities can help ensure reliable electricity, protect homes and businesses, and reduce the social and financial costs caused by frequent power disruptions.

The message is clear: bush burning is more than a fire risk—it is a threat to energy security. UEDCL’s campaign highlights that everyone has a role in safeguarding electricity infrastructure and keeping the lights on for all.
