Entebbe International Airport has once again proven to be Uganda’s busiest gateway, recording 242,527 international passengers in December 2025. This number, which includes 121,687 arrivals and 120,840 departures, translates to an average of about 7,823 travelers per day, making December the busiest month ever in the airport’s history. The steady increase in passenger numbers highlights growing demand for air travel, both for business and leisure, and reflects Uganda’s rising profile as a regional hub.

Cargo operations also reached impressive levels during the same period. In December 2025, the airport handled 6,728 metric tonnes of cargo, with 4,372 metric tonnes of exports surpassing 2,356 metric tonnes of imports. The higher export volumes showcase Uganda’s thriving trade, particularly in fresh produce, fish, and flowers. These figures underline the critical role the airport plays in supporting the country’s economy by facilitating trade and connecting Ugandan businesses to international markets.

Looking at the yearly trends, 2025 was a record-breaking year overall. Entebbe International Airport served 2,486,893 international passengers, up from 2,243,104 in 2024, 1,932,094 in 2023, and 1,574,405 in 2022. Cargo handled also saw steady growth, with 69,595 metric tonnes in 2025, compared to 67,098 metric tonnes in 2024. These numbers show consistent growth in both travel and trade, emphasizing the airport’s importance as a national and regional transport hub.

The start of 2026 shows the trend continuing. In January, the airport welcomed 150,188 international passengers, with 67,570 arrivals and 82,618 departures, averaging about 4,845 travelers per day. Cargo volumes remained strong at 3,982 metric tonnes, with 2,405 metric tonnes of exports, further highlighting the airport’s role in moving Uganda’s goods to the world.

Overall, Entebbe International Airport’s record passenger and cargo numbers are a clear signal of Uganda’s growing connectivity, economic activity, and appeal as a destination for both tourism and trade. With exports continuing to outpace imports, and passenger numbers steadily climbing, the airport is solidifying its position as a vital gateway for people and goods, boosting the country’s economy and global presence.
