The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), in collaboration with the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC), has taken a significant step in strengthening aviation security in Uganda.
The two institutions conducted a comprehensive fraud detection and travel document inspection training at the UCAA head office in Entebbe. The training brought together airline operators, ground handlers, security agencies, and UCAA staff, all united by a shared goal of protecting Uganda’s skies.
More than 60 participants attended the training, gaining practical knowledge and hands-on skills to detect fraudulent travel documents. In an era where document forgery methods are becoming increasingly sophisticated, the ability to identify fake passports, visas, and altered travel papers is critical.
Participants were trained to recognize red flags, carefully examine security features embedded in travel documents, and respond appropriately to suspicious cases. These skills are essential in preventing security breaches and protecting national borders. The training aligns with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), particularly Annex 9 – Facilitation. By conducting this program, Uganda continues to strengthen its compliance under the Universal Security Audit Programme Continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA) framework.
This reflects the country’s strong commitment to maintaining international aviation safety and security standards.Beyond technical learning, the training also encouraged collaboration among key aviation stakeholders. Fraud detection is most effective when airlines, immigration officers, security personnel, and aviation authorities work closely together. By strengthening communication and cooperation, UCAA is helping to build a united front against fraud and illegal activities in the aviation sector.
Through this initiative, UCAA has once again demonstrated leadership in safeguarding Uganda’s aviation industry. Investing in capacity building not only enhances security but also builds confidence among travelers and international partners. With stronger skills and improved coordination, Uganda is better prepared to keep its skies safe and secure.
