The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) this week took a major step in advancing Uganda’s digital agenda through a high-level engagement with U.S. Ambassador H.E. William Popp. The meeting highlighted the growing digital and commercial relationship between Uganda and the United States and reaffirmed a shared commitment to innovation, investment, and inclusive growth.
Working alongside the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance and other key sector agencies, UCC led discussions on practical strategies to accelerate Uganda’s digital transformation. The talks focused on high-impact opportunities, especially in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Both sides explored potential collaboration in AI development and the introduction of IT skills exchange programmes with leading U.S. technology firms.
These initiatives aim to equip Ugandan professionals with advanced digital skills while strengthening the country’s local technology ecosystem.The discussions also addressed the urgent need for resilient and forward-looking regulatory frameworks. As digital technologies continue to evolve, clear and predictable regulations are essential to promote innovation, protect consumers, and attract foreign direct investment.

UCC reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to communication services, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
