The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Toro Kingdom to enhance the collection, sharing, and use of data and statistics for planning and development.
The MoU, signed at UBOS headquarters in Kampala after two years of anticipation, was witnessed by senior officials from both institutions.
Dr. Chris Mukiiza, UBOS Executive Director and National Statistician, said the agreement will strengthen collaboration and improve efficiency. “This MoU allows UBOS to access statistics from Toro Kingdom at no cost. I can request data directly from the Prime Minister via email, saving both time and resources,” he explained.
Dr. Mukiiza highlighted that the partnership dates back to the 2024 National Housing and Population Census. He commended the Kingdom for providing impartial and efficient enumerators, contributing to accurate census results. UBOS plans to establish a dedicated statistics committee and unit to further support collaboration.
He added that reliable statistics are critical for informed budgeting and planning, helping avoid underestimation or overestimation of resources.
Toro Kingdom Prime Minister Armstrong Akiiki Rwomiire said that while initial discussions began in 2024, administrative changes delayed progress. “With accurate data, we can now plan and allocate resources effectively, ensuring the growth and development of our Kingdom,” he said.
