Charles Peter Mayiga, the Katikkiro of Buganda, has raised alarm over the increasing reports of security-related arrests in Butambala, urging swift action to address the growing fear among local residents. During his address at the Eid al-Fitr prayers held at Kabasanda Mosque, Mayiga expressed his deep concern about the atmosphere of fear that has gripped the region due to these unsettling developments.

The ongoing arrests have left many people in Butambala feeling vulnerable and uncertain, with some even fearing for their safety. Mayiga emphasized that such actions must not lead to division and conflict, but instead urged all parties to come together for dialogue and understanding. He echoed the Kabaka’s message, calling for unity and peaceful resolutions rather than exacerbating tensions.

In his remarks, Mayiga reminded the community that political misunderstandings should never overshadow their collective well-being. He warned that leaders must work to bring people together, rather than sow discord, as harmful political decisions only serve to destabilize communities and create unnecessary hardship for the people.

Sheikh Sowedi Lutwama, the district Khadi, also spoke at the event, encouraging Muslims to extend their care to all those around them, especially those who may be vulnerable or in need. He reminded the congregation that Ramadan is a time to reflect on personal growth and extend compassion to everyone, not just those we are closest to.

Hajji Sulaiman Magala, the Kabaka’s representative in the area, also shared his concerns, noting that residents are living in constant fear due to the reports of abductions and arbitrary arrests. According to Magala, the tension created by these actions has left the community on edge, with many unsure of what to expect next.
Mayiga continued his address by urging the Muslim community to carry the discipline and values they’ve observed during Ramadan throughout the year. He called on them to avoid actions that could harm others, stressing that the principles of Ramadan should inspire continued respect and kindness towards all citizens.
Before concluding, Mayiga expressed his appreciation to the Muslim community of Kabasanda for their dedication to the mosque and their efforts in developing the land. He encouraged them to remain loyal and united under the Kabaka’s leadership, reminding them that working together is key to overcoming any challenges the community may face.
Mayiga’s strong message is a call for peace, unity, and dialogue in Butambala, ensuring that the fear and division caused by security concerns do not overshadow the community’s spirit of togetherness during this important time.
