URA Boosts Revenue and Awareness in Kazo with Tujenge April Campaign

Share This:

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has successfully collected over UGX 19 million during a one-day taxpayer assessment exercise in Kazo District. This effort was part of the ongoing Tujenge April Campaign, a nationwide initiative aimed at improving tax compliance and encouraging citizens to actively participate in national development through paying taxes.

The exercise focused mainly on presumptive taxpayers, especially small-scale business owners and traders. These taxpayers often operate informal businesses, making it harder to track their income using standard methods. URA officials visited them directly, assessed their businesses, and guided them on how their taxes are calculated.

This hands-on approach made it easier for many to understand their responsibilities.Nicholas Mpairwe, the acting station head for Ibanda, explained that the campaign is not just about collecting money. He noted that many people in local communities lack enough knowledge about tax procedures. By engaging them directly, URA helps clear misunderstandings and builds confidence among taxpayers. This personal interaction also allows officials to register new taxpayers and update existing records.

The results from Kazo District show that when taxpayers are well-informed and supported, they are more willing to comply. The campaign also strengthens the relationship between URA and the public, making tax collection more effective and transparent. In the end, the Tujenge April Campaign continues to prove its value. It is helping to grow government revenue while also educating citizens on their role in national development. With such efforts, URA is building a stronger and more responsible tax culture across Uganda.
