Uganda is steadily strengthening its position in the digital era, with new figures from the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) highlighting remarkable progress in the country’s communications infrastructure. The latest growth reflects a nation increasingly connected, empowered, and prepared to embrace the opportunities of a digital future.
One of the most notable achievements is the sharp rise in mobile subscriptions. Registered mobile users increased from 57.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2025 to 61.6 million in the first quarter of 2026, underscoring the growing reliance on digital communication and mobile-based services across the country.
This expansion in mobile connectivity is opening doors for millions of Ugandans.
From accessing financial services and online education to connecting with markets and information, mobile technology continues to play a central role in driving social and economic transformation.
UCC also reported significant growth in the national fibre network, which expanded from 62,941 kilometres to 71,740 kilometres within the same period. This development strengthens the country’s digital backbone and supports the delivery of faster, more reliable internet services to businesses and communities.
The telecommunications sector recorded another important milestone with the increase in telecom towers from 5,493 to 5,578. The additional infrastructure is helping to extend network coverage, improve service quality, and enhance connectivity in both established and emerging service areas.
Together, these investments are creating a more resilient and inclusive digital ecosystem. Improved connectivity is enabling greater participation in the digital economy while supporting innovation, productivity, and access to essential online services.
As digital infrastructure expands, businesses are gaining new opportunities to innovate, grow, and compete. Stronger networks allow enterprises to leverage technology more effectively, reach wider audiences, and contribute to the country’s economic advancement.
Through continued investment and strategic development, UCC says Uganda is building a solid foundation for long-term digital transformation. The latest gains in mobile subscriptions, fibre connectivity, and telecom infrastructure signal a future where technology serves as a powerful driver of national development and shared prosperity.
