The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has recorded notable progress on the KW-LVWATSAN Water Supply Network Project (Package 2B), a major infrastructure initiative designed to strengthen and expand water distribution across the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area. The project is steadily advancing and is expected to play a vital role in addressing growing water demand in the rapidly developing region.

A recent field inspection and progress review were led by the Senior Director for Planning, Performance and Capital Development, Eng. Paddy Twesigye, alongside Project Manager Eng. Herbert Mujuni and members of the project implementation team. The visit provided an opportunity to assess ongoing works and evaluate achievements made so far under the ambitious undertaking.Construction activities on the transmission pipeline continue to gather pace, with 11 kilometres of pipeline already completed out of the total planned 68.5 kilometres.

Multiple construction teams remain active on key routes, including Kira–Kasangati, Lugoba–Nansana, and Kabulengwa–Wakiso, ensuring that work progresses simultaneously across different sections of the network.Significant milestones have also been reached at the Kabulengwa Booster Station, where the roof slab has successfully been cast and is currently undergoing the curing process. This development marks an important step toward the completion of one of the project’s critical operational facilities.

At the Kanyanya Reservoir site, construction works are equally progressing well. Teams are currently focused on installing drainage infrastructure, building inlet valve chambers, and undertaking steel reinforcement works for the ground beams, laying a strong foundation for future reservoir operations. The project forms a key component of NWSC’s broader strategy to modernize and expand water infrastructure in Wakiso District and neighboring communities. Upon completion, thousands of residents are expected to benefit from a more reliable, efficient, and sustainable water supply system capable of meeting increasing urban demand.

Although the overall project is scheduled for completion in July 2027, NWSC is exploring measures to accelerate service delivery in selected areas. According to Eng. Herbert Mujuni, residents of Buwate, Kasangati, Gayaza, and surrounding communities could begin receiving water as early as January 2027 due to the expedited construction of the pipeline serving those locations.

The KW-LVWATSAN Water Supply Network Project reflects the Government of Uganda’s commitment, through NWSC, to rehabilitate, restructure, rezone, and extend the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area water supply system. Once completed, the investment will significantly improve access to clean and safe water, enhance service reliability, and support the region’s long-term social and economic development.
