Extra Working Days to Speed Up Cargo Clearance, URA Announces Extended Hours

Share This:

In a proactive move to support traders and improve the flow of goods, the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has announced extended working hours during June 2026. This special arrangement is designed to help clear pending transactions and reduce backlog in customs processes. Notably, URA will open for a full working day on June 9th, 2026, which is a public holiday, and every Saturday throughout June. This decision aims to give importers, customs agents, bonded warehouse operators, and other stakeholders more time to complete their clearance tasks without delay.

The Authority has made it clear that customs staff will be fully available on these extra days to handle all clearance operations. This includes processing unverified goods, clearing cargo that has not yet entered the system, and facilitating the exit and release of approved goods. By doing so, URA hopes to minimize congestion at border points and warehouses, ensuring smoother movement of goods across the supply chain.

Bonded warehouse operators and logistics teams have been encouraged to support this arrangement and plan their activities around these additional operational days. This means preparing documentation, coordinating cargo movements, and taking full advantage of the extra working hours provided. Customs clearing agents and importers are also urged to note these dates and use this dedicated time window to follow up on pending clearances and fast‑track their processes.

Overall, URA’s extended working hours during June reflect a strong commitment to trade facilitation and stakeholder service. By opening on a holiday and weekends, the Authority is responding to the needs of the business community, promoting efficiency, and helping to accelerate economic activity in the country. This initiative is expected to relieve pressure on the system and support smoother, faster customs operations for all involved.
