Uganda’s Members of Parliament are set to receive funds this month to support the purchase of official vehicles, after Finance Minister Henry Musasizi confirmed that the allocation will be released in the first batch of the 2026/27 financial year.

The announcement was made during an induction meeting for legislators at Muyonyo, where several MPs raised concerns about delays in accessing the long-promised vehicle facilitation.

Musasizi assured the House that the government had already finalized plans to release the funds in July, adding that the Ministry of Finance had been instructed to prioritize the payment.

He explained that the money would be processed without delay and included in the first quarter disbursement, stressing that the intention was to ensure MPs are adequately facilitated in their constituency work.
According to the minister, all eligible legislators are expected to receive the funds by the end of July, ending months of anticipation over the allocation.

Each Member of Parliament in the 12th Parliament is set to receive UGX 315 million for the purchase of an official vehicle, a benefit that has attracted significant public attention.
The total cost of the exercise stands at UGX 166.8 billion for 529 MPs, triggering debate among citizens and commentators over government spending priorities amid economic pressure.

While supporters say the vehicles are necessary for effective parliamentary service and constituency reach, critics argue that the allocation highlights widening concerns over public expenditure and national debt levels.
