Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has applauded NRM Iganga District Treasurer Hajji Ismail Badogi Waguma for withdrawing his parliamentary election petition against Kigulu North MP Hon. Samuel Kungu Bamuteeze, describing the move as a gesture of unity and political maturity.Badogi had challenged Bamuteeze’s victory in the Kigulu North parliamentary race, but later chose to voluntarily withdraw the case, a decision Tayebwa said reflects a commitment to protecting peace, harmony, and cohesion within the National Resistance Movement (NRM).In a statement released on Monday, July 13, Tayebwa commended Badogi for putting the interests of the party and the people of Kigulu North ahead of personal political differences.
He said the decision demonstrated a high level of leadership and responsibility. The Deputy Speaker said Badogi’s action would help strengthen unity within the ruling party and promote stability in Iganga District and the wider Busoga region, especially after the conclusion of the electoral process.Tayebwa described the withdrawal of the petition as a reflection of the NRM’s values of solidarity and reconciliation, noting that it supports the party’s long-term vision under its National Chairman, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
He also called upon other party members with unresolved electoral disagreements to embrace dialogue and seek peaceful solutions instead of allowing disputes to continue through prolonged court processes. The decision has cleared the way for Hon. Samuel Kungu Bamuteeze to continue serving as the elected Member of Parliament for Kigulu North without the uncertainty of a pending legal challenge.Observers say the move could serve as an example of conflict resolution within political parties, with dialogue and compromise helping to maintain unity and allowing leaders to concentrate on serving their communities.
