Equity Bank Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to improving public health by supporting the 13th edition of the Kabaka’s Birthday Run, an annual event aimed at raising awareness and mobilising efforts to eliminate HIV/AIDS. The bank’s participation reflects its continued investment in community initiatives that promote healthier and more sustainable lives.Ahead of the event, Equity Bank Executive Director Claver Sserumaga said the institution is proud to partner with the Buganda Kingdom in celebrating the 71st birthday of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II while advancing an important national health campaign.

He noted that the bank values initiatives that create lasting social impact across the country. This year’s run is being held under the theme, “Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child,” which encourages men to play a greater role in preventing HIV transmission and protecting future generations. The campaign supports Uganda’s broader goal of ending HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.Sserumaga said the theme closely matches Equity Bank’s mission of transforming lives through partnerships that promote health, inclusion and sustainable development. He emphasised that defeating HIV/AIDS requires collective responsibility from individuals, institutions and communities working together.

As part of its contribution, Equity Bank donated and purchased 140 participation kits to support the success of the event. Sserumaga also pledged his personal support by confirming that he would take part in the challenging 21-kilometre race, demonstrating the bank’s commitment beyond financial sponsorship. He called upon more Ugandans to participate in the run, saying the event offers an opportunity to raise awareness, inspire hope and contribute to a healthier future. He stressed that every participant helps strengthen the national campaign against HIV/AIDS through both advocacy and community involvement.

Over the years, the Kabaka’s Birthday Run has grown into one of Uganda’s most influential public health initiatives, bringing together thousands of people from different sectors of society. Corporate organisations, cultural institutions and ordinary citizens continue to use the event as a platform to promote disease prevention and healthier lifestyles.Equity Bank believes partnerships such as this are essential in achieving long-term health goals. By supporting initiatives that educate communities and encourage collective action, the bank hopes to contribute to a future where HIV/AIDS is no longer a major public health challenge and every Ugandan has the opportunity to live a healthier life.
