Equity Bank Uganda will host another edition of its Diaspora Webinar Series on Saturday, August 1, 2026, bringing together financial experts and Ugandans living abroad to explore how remittances can be transformed into long-term investments that create wealth and accelerate Uganda’s economic growth. The virtual session will feature Bank of Uganda Deputy Governor Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, who is expected to share insights on the growing importance of diaspora investment in driving the country’s economic transformation. The webinar aims to provide participants with practical knowledge to help them make informed investment decisions back home.Organised as part of Equity Bank’s ongoing commitment to the Ugandan diaspora, the webinar will focus on financial planning, wealth creation and investment opportunities across key sectors, including commercial agriculture, manufacturing, real estate and small businesses. Participants will also learn about banking solutions designed to support overseas investors. The discussions come at a time when remittances from Ugandans abroad continue to reach record levels. In 2025, the country received about US$2.5 billion, equivalent to approximately Shs9.3 trillion, with the funds contributing nearly 3.8 percent of Uganda’s Gross Domestic Product.
While much of the money supports household needs, experts believe it can also drive sustainable economic development through productive investments.Equity Bank says empowering diaspora communities with financial knowledge and investment opportunities is key to unlocking the full potential of remittances. The bank is positioning itself as a trusted financial partner by providing digital banking services and tailored investment solutions that allow customers to manage their assets from anywhere in the world. The participation of the Bank of Uganda’s Deputy Governor reflects the increasing national focus on attracting diaspora capital as a major source of investment. The webinar is expected to examine how sound government policies, financial innovation and secure digital banking can create a stronger environment for diaspora-led investments.
Equity Bank Uganda has continued to receive recognition for its contribution to diaspora banking and financial inclusion. Earlier this year, the bank won the Corporate Business of the Year Award at the African Business Chamber African Business Awards 2026 in London, recognising its efforts in cross-border banking, trade facilitation and diaspora investment across Africa.Through the webinar, Equity Bank hopes to inspire more Ugandans living abroad to view remittances as more than family support. The initiative seeks to encourage strategic investments that build lasting wealth, create employment opportunities and contribute to Uganda’s long-term economic transformation.
