The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has announced major strides in revenue collection, business formalisation and service delivery, with new reforms aimed at creating a faster, more efficient and digitally driven registration system for Ugandans.URSB’s latest performance report shows that the institution collected UGX80.6 billion in Non-Tax Revenue during the 2025/26 financial year, an increase of UGX8.792 billion compared to the previous year. The growth, equivalent to 12.2 percent, was attributed to increased uptake of business registration and other registry services.
The Bureau said more entrepreneurs are embracing formal registration as a result of expanded access programmes across the country. Through nationwide business registration clinics, URSB supported the registration of 7,739 businesses while generating more than UGX4.147 billion in revenue.Building on this progress, URSB has set a revenue target of UGX87.087 billion for the 2026/27 financial year as it continues to promote enterprise development, investment and innovation as key drivers of Uganda’s economic transformation.
The institution is also accelerating digital reforms, with plans to automate 90 percent of its registries and reduce business registration turnaround time to approximately two hours. URSB said the changes will improve customer experience, lower operational costs and make government services more accessible.Among the major achievements recorded during the year was the introduction of the Non-Individual Register, a centralised system aimed at improving the management and regulation of organisations and entities operating outside individual ownership structures.URSB also strengthened its institutional capacity after securing ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification.
The Bureau expanded support for entrepreneurs through business rescue training, intellectual property awareness campaigns, increased use of the Security Interest in Movable Property Registry and the creation of four Technology and Innovation Support Centres. The Bureau attributed its performance to strategic leadership from its Board of Directors led by Ambassador Francis K. Butagira and the management team headed by Registrar General Mercy K. Kainobwisho. URSB said it will continue pursuing reforms that simplify registration, encourage business growth and support Uganda’s broader socio-economic development agenda.
