Uganda Airlines has taken a major step in its expansion journey after officially introducing scheduled flights to Kigali, Rwanda, and Accra, Ghana, in a move expected to transform regional connectivity and open new opportunities for trade, tourism and investment. The historic launch event held at Entebbe International Airport brought together senior government officials, diplomats, aviation experts and industry stakeholders who praised the new routes as a boost to Uganda’s ambition of becoming a leading aviation hub in Africa.Among those present were Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Vincent Bagiire, Ambassador Richard Kabonero, Uganda’s representatives in Rwanda, officials from the Ministry of Works and Transport, and other key partners who witnessed the beginning of a new chapter for the national carrier.

Uganda Airlines Acting Chief Executive Officer Girma Wake said the new destinations will create fresh opportunities for economic growth by connecting Uganda to important markets in East and West Africa. He noted that both Kigali and Accra have strong potential in business, tourism, trade and investment.Wake admitted that the Kigali route should have been introduced much earlier, saying Rwanda’s capital has always been a strategic destination for Uganda because of the strong economic and social ties between the two countries. The Kigali flights are expected to strengthen movement between Uganda and Rwanda by making travel easier for business communities, tourists and government officials.

The Accra route, on the other hand, will provide Uganda with a direct connection to West Africa, encouraging stronger commercial and diplomatic relations. The expansion supports Uganda Airlines’ wider plan of positioning Entebbe International Airport as a key regional aviation centre while contributing to the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area through improved movement of people and goods. With the addition of Kigali and Accra, Uganda Airlines continues to grow its African network, offering passengers more convenient travel options while boosting Uganda’s position as a gateway for business, tourism and regional integration.
