dfcu Bank has strengthened its commitment to Uganda’s education sector by increasing support for international schools and positioning itself as a strategic partner in addressing challenges affecting institutional growth, sustainability, and quality learning. The bank’s commitment was highlighted during a high-level International Schools Forum held at dfcu’s Nakasero headquarters, bringing together school owners, regulators, curriculum providers, and private sector players to discuss opportunities and challenges shaping Uganda’s education landscape.
The discussions focused on growing pressures facing international schools, including rising operational costs, changing regulatory requirements, foreign currency exposure on curriculum expenses, infrastructure demands, technology investments, and the need to retain qualified teaching staff.dfcu Bank said its engagement with the education sector goes beyond traditional financing, with the institution seeking to provide broader solutions that help schools improve efficiency, expand their facilities, and achieve long-term sustainability.Speaking at the forum, dfcu Chief Executive Officer Charles Mudiwa emphasized the importance of education in shaping Uganda’s future, noting that schools play a critical role in developing the next generation of leaders and professionals.
Mudiwa highlighted that schools continue to face complex operational realities, including the need to invest in modern infrastructure, digital learning systems, laboratories, transport facilities, and teacher development programs to meet international standards.Uganda’s international schools sector has experienced significant growth due to increased demand for globally recognised curricula such as Cambridge, International Baccalaureate, and Accelerated Christian Education. However, institutions continue to face financial pressures linked to expansion costs, fluctuating enrolment, and affordability concerns among families.
dfcu’s education financing strategy includes supporting school expansion projects, infrastructure development, acquisition of learning equipment, and asset financing solutions to help institutions improve learning environments and increase access to quality education. The bank’s Executive Director for Corporate and Institutional Banking, Kate Kiiza, said collaboration between financial institutions, schools, regulators, and curriculum providers will be essential in building a stronger education sector capable of supporting Uganda’s development ambitions. She added that dfcu remains committed to providing solutions that strengthen both education institutions and the wider learning ecosystem.
