Pallisa District Woman MP Catherine Achola has earned praise from residents after revealing that she will use her Shs300 million parliamentary vehicle grant to acquire assets meant to benefit the entire community rather than for personal use.Achola announced that the funds have been divided into three major investments — a Fuso truck, chairs for community functions, and a hard-body pickup vehicle designed to withstand the challenging road conditions in rural Pallisa.
The legislator made the revelation during the burial of Keron Tukei, son of Alfred Okwerede, in Komolo-Kobuin Village, Akisim Sub-county, where residents described the decision as a demonstration of leadership driven by service and accountability. She explained that the truck will provide much-needed transport support for residents during funerals, assist students travelling for different activities, and help faith groups moving for religious events, including the annual Namugongo Martyrs pilgrimage.Residents welcomed the move, with Esther Akia praising Achola for choosing investments that will continue serving the community instead of spending the money on one-time celebrations. She said the decision reflected a leader who understands the needs of ordinary people.
Former Akisim Sub-county councillor John Julius Okakii said the truck would be a valuable addition to the constituency, helping families and groups overcome transport difficulties whenever they need to move people or materials within and beyond Pallisa.Achola also addressed concerns from some constituents over her delayed thanksgiving ceremony following her election victory, saying she had decided to first focus on delivering solutions to community challenges before organising celebrations.
The MP urged residents to remain united regardless of their political affiliations, promising to serve all people in Pallisa. She encouraged locals to elect responsible community leaders, embrace government programmes, and use the rainy season to improve household livelihoods through farming.
