PLU youth leaders in Greater Mubende have declared a renewed grassroots campaign against corruption, pledging to mobilise young people and communities to demand accountability and ensure public resources are used for their intended purposes. The leaders made the pledge during the election of the Patriotic League of Uganda Greater Mubende regional leadership at Kakungube Village in Nalutuntu Sub-county, Kassanda District, bringing together youth representatives from Mityana, Kassanda, Mubende, Kiboga and Kyankwanzi.
The newly elected officials said they intend to use PLU’s community structures to identify corruption-related concerns and encourage residents to take a more active role in monitoring public services and government programmes.Isaac Kitanda, the PLU spokesperson for Greater Mubende, said the organisation wants to move the fight against corruption closer to ordinary citizens by empowering communities to understand and exercise their role in demanding accountability.Kitanda said the youth would also encourage residents to participate in government programmes while keeping a close eye on how public resources are managed at the local level. He stressed that meaningful accountability requires active involvement from communities themselves.
The leaders at the gathering also praised Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Minister for Local Government Balamu Baruhagale for what they described as efforts to tackle corruption and promote discipline. Kassanda District Chairperson Drek Ssemuyaba Ssembuusi urged residents to support initiatives aimed at strengthening accountability and responsible leadership.Ssemuyaba also appealed to residents to follow the directive issued by Minister Balamu on the operation of bars and encouraged parents to support their children in acquiring education and skills.
Kassanda South MP Abdul Bisaso separately urged young people to participate actively in PLU programmes and pursue opportunities that can benefit their communities. The Greater Mubende PLU youth leaders said their campaign will go beyond political gatherings, with plans to establish stronger links with residents and local leaders across Mityana, Kassanda, Mubende, Kiboga and Kyankwanzi. They said the newly elected regional structure will provide a platform for coordinating youth activities while expanding efforts to promote accountability, community development and the fight against corruption.
