The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has strengthened its efforts to promote tax compliance among public institutions after engaging leaders of Kyotera District Local Government in discussions focused on improving accountability and responsible management of public funds. The engagement began with a pre-tax education compliance check-in where URA officials assessed the district’s current tax compliance status and identified areas requiring attention ahead of a wider tax education session for district officials.

The meeting was led by Marion Lubowa, Supervisor of Compliance and Enforcement in URA’s Public Sector Office, together with tax education officers who interacted with Kyotera District Chief Administrative Officer Nfitumukiza Muhamed and Chief Finance Officer Kyambadde Robert.Discussions centred on the tax responsibilities of Kyotera District Local Government and its administrative units, including five town councils and nine sub-counties, with URA providing guidance on maintaining proper filing and payment practices.

Lubowa commended the district’s Chief Finance Officer for ensuring that Kyotera Local Government consistently meets its tax obligations on time, describing timely compliance as a key element of sound public financial management. The engagement also allowed district leaders to share experiences, raise concerns and seek clarification on various aspects of tax administration.

URA officials used the opportunity to explain applicable tax requirements and encourage continued compliance among public sector entities. The pre-tax education meeting created a platform for an upcoming broader sensitisation programme aimed at improving tax awareness, addressing compliance challenges and strengthening cooperation between URA and local government institutions.URA said the Kyotera engagement is part of its wider strategy to enhance compliance across local governments by ensuring public institutions understand their tax responsibilities and uphold timely filing and payment of statutory obligations.
