The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is set to celebrate some of the country’s leading filmmakers and creative talents as the 2026 Uganda Film Festival (UFF) enters its latest edition under the theme “Transformation: The Power of Local Stories.”Running from August 21 to 28, the festival is bringing together filmmakers, actors, producers, industry professionals and cinema lovers for a week dedicated to showcasing the growing strength and diversity of Uganda’s film industry.Throughout the festival, audiences will have an opportunity to watch locally produced films in participating cinemas, while creatives take part in workshops and industry forums designed to promote knowledge-sharing, networking and collaboration within the sector.
The festival is also placing local storytelling at the heart of its programme, highlighting the ability of Ugandan filmmakers to tell authentic stories that capture the country’s culture, experiences, challenges and changing society. The celebrations will reach their climax on Friday, August 28, during the UFF 2026 Awards Gala, where outstanding filmmakers and other exceptional contributors to Uganda’s film industry will be recognised for their creativity, talent and achievements.According to UCC, the awards are aimed at encouraging and celebrating creatives whose work continues to contribute to the development and transformation of Uganda’s film and television sector, while inspiring more locally produced content.
Beyond the awards, the festival’s workshops and industry engagements are expected to create space for players in the creative economy to exchange ideas, strengthen professional networks and explore opportunities that can accelerate the growth of Uganda’s film industry.Supported by UCC and MultiChoice, UFF 2026 is encouraging audiences to experience Ugandan cinema on the big screen and celebrate the people behind the stories. The Awards Gala, scheduled for August 28, will be an invite-only event.
