URSB Takes Non-Individual Register Campaign to Karamoja, Engages Local Government Leaders

The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has stepped up efforts to promote the implementation of the Non-Individual Register (NIR), taking its stakeholder engagement campaign to the Karamoja Region. The engagement is being held at Hotel Africana Moroto and has brought together Chief Administrative Officers, Commercial Officers and District Community Development Officers from Local Governments across the Karamojong Region.

URSB is using the engagement to familiarise local government officials with the Non-Individual Register and explain how the new system is expected to transform the way non-individual entities are identified, registered and managed in Uganda. The NIR is designed as a centralised register for non-individual entities operating in the country, providing a unified platform through which information about such entities can be captured, organised and accessed.During the engagement, URSB officials are highlighting the role of Local Governments in the implementation of the register, particularly in ensuring that relevant entities within their areas of jurisdiction are effectively identified and incorporated into the system. The initiative is expected to improve the availability and reliability of information on non-individual entities while reducing gaps arising from fragmented approaches to registration and record management.

URSB says stronger collaboration with Local Governments will be critical to the success of the NIR, given the role districts play in interacting with communities, businesses, organisations and other entities operating at the local level. The Moroto engagement forms part of URSB’s broader stakeholder outreach aimed at building understanding and securing local government support for the NIR, a reform expected to strengthen Uganda’s registration ecosystem and improve the coordination and management of non-individual entities nationwide.
