Stanbic Uganda Holdings Chief Executive Mark Ocitti, together with members of the senior leadership team, has visited St. Sedes Sapientiae Academiae to celebrate the students who emerged winners of the 11th edition of the Stanbic National Schools Championship. The visit gave Stanbic Uganda leadership an opportunity to interact with the students and school community and recognise their creativity, innovation and determination.

The students impressed the judges with a practical project designed to respond to challenges faced by local farmers. The winning students developed a multi-purpose poultry feed-making machine that allows farmers to chop and grind raw materials used to prepare poultry feed from the comfort of their homes. The innovation is aimed at making poultry farming easier and more affordable for farmers by reducing the need to depend on costly or distant feed-processing services. It also demonstrates how students can use technology and creativity to develop solutions to real challenges in their communities.

Their achievement earned them several rewards following their victory in the national championship. The students received an educational trip to South Africa, giving them an opportunity to learn from new environments, interact with others and gain experiences that can further inspire their academic and innovative journey. The school was also awarded UGX 20 million, while UGX 5 million was given to support the students’ project. The students additionally received laptops to support their studies, research and continued work on innovative ideas. The visit by Ocitti and the Stanbic senior leadership team highlighted the bank’s support for young innovators and the importance of giving students opportunities to turn their ideas into practical solutions.

The success of the St. Sedes Sapientiae students demonstrates the potential of Uganda’s young people when they are given the right support, skills and platforms to showcase their creativity. Their poultry feed machine is not only a school project but also an example of how student innovation can contribute to solving everyday challenges faced by communities.Through the Stanbic National Schools Championship, students across Uganda continue to get an opportunity to develop and present ideas that can have an impact beyond the classroom. The achievement of St. Sedes Sapientiae has added another inspiring example of how education, innovation and practical problem-solving can come together to create opportunities for a better future.
