The road to the 2026 Independence Marathon is gaining momentum as the Stanbic Run Club brought together runners, walkers, families, friends and partners for an activation run aimed at supporting the #SaveAMother cause.The activation took place at Metroplex, Naalya, where participants came together for a morning of fitness, community engagement and awareness ahead of the main marathon. The event provided an opportunity for people from different backgrounds to join a common cause while preparing for the upcoming race.The Independence Marathon is scheduled for 4th October 2026 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
The activation forms part of the activities leading up to the main event, giving participants an opportunity to build excitement and encourage more people to take part.The Stanbic Run Club played a key role in bringing participants together, with runners and walkers taking to the route as part of the campaign. Families and friends also joined the activity, turning the morning into a community event centred on health, togetherness and giving back.At the heart of the campaign is the #SaveAMother cause, which seeks to use the marathon platform to draw attention to issues affecting mothers and encourage support for efforts aimed at improving maternal health.The activation also highlighted how sporting activities can bring communities together around important social causes.
Participants were able to stay active while contributing to a wider campaign that seeks to create a positive impact beyond the marathon itself.With the main marathon only weeks away, the Naalya activation adds to the growing build-up to the 2026 Independence Marathon. Organisers and participants are expected to continue encouraging more runners, walkers and supporters to join the event at Namboole on 4th October.The Independence Marathon will therefore offer more than a day of running, bringing together sport, community participation and social impact under one platform.
