Drama unfolded at Bududa Senior Secondary School after students reportedly intervened to stop anti-corruption officials from arresting their head teacher, Nasibu Mutyaba, over allegations of illegal school fees. The incident happened on Thursday, September 17, 2026, during an anti-corruption operation linked to Minister of State for Local Government Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi’s visit to Bududa.Reports indicate that Mutyaba was being arrested over allegations that the government-aided school was charging students Sh150,000 in fees despite the government’s free education programme.

However, when the officials moved to take him away, students reportedly surrounded them, demanding to know where they were taking their head teacher. The students allegedly pulled Mutyaba away from the officials, overwhelming the anti-corruption team and police officers at the scene. The incident came as several district officials were reportedly arrested over alleged corruption and mismanagement, including acting District Education Officer David Muwoya Wekhoola, District Community Development Officer Beatrice Wakooli and District Commercial Officer Hashim Wafula.

Other officials reportedly arrested include District Internal Auditor Grace Nabutasale, District Inspector of Schools Naume Muganwa and Assistant RDCs Bernard Madoi and Hassan Mangobe. The minister has maintained that government-aided schools should not impose charges that prevent vulnerable children from accessing education. Investigations into the allegations are expected to continue.
