State Minister for Local Government and Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere Nsubuga has apologised to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba over a video that she says was maliciously edited and circulated to create conflict between them.
In a message directed at Muhoozi, Nameere said the video did not represent her true message and insisted that she could never deliberately attack him.
“My sincere apology to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba regarding a video that unscrupulous people maliciously edited and put your name! I can NEVER attack you my Brother! Heshima,” Nameere wrote.
She also quoted Proverbs 6:19, which condemns false witnesses who speak lies, appearing to distance herself from the remarks contained in the disputed clip.
The apology follows demands from Muhoozi for Nameere to apologise. He had earlier given her a deadline to do so and later issued another 72-hour ultimatum, saying he would remove her from her ministerial position if she failed to apologise.
The controversy reportedly arose from a shortened video that appeared to show Nameere making remarks about Muhoozi.
However, reports about the longer recording indicated that she was addressing Patriotic League of Uganda Secretary General Daudi Kabanda, with the section identifying him allegedly removed from the edited clip.
Nameere has previously complained about edited videos being used to create misunderstandings involving her and Muhoozi. Her latest message now seeks to make clear that she does not accept the disputed video as a reflection of her position and that she considers Muhoozi her brother.
