The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has been recognised as the Best Sector Exhibitor at the 32nd Uganda International Trade Fair, emerging among institutions that have demonstrated outstanding innovation, service delivery and contribution to Uganda’s economic development.
The award comes as this year’s Trade Fair, held under the theme “Formalising Trade to Secure Uganda’s Economic Future,” brings together businesses, government institutions and other players from across the country to showcase products, services and innovations driving Uganda’s economic transformation.NWSC’s exhibition attracted attention for going beyond the traditional display of services, creating an interactive space where visitors could learn about the Corporation’s work in providing safe water, improving sanitation and responding to the growing demands of Uganda’s rapidly expanding urban population.
A key attraction at the NWSC stall is the Corporation’s focus on water quality management, sewerage services and innovations designed to make safe water more accessible to communities. Through its Urban Pro-Poor initiative, residents in informal settlements can access clean and safe water at UGX 25 per 20-litre jerrycan, helping make water services more affordable for low-income households. The Corporation also received praise from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Sanjay Tanna, who visited the NWSC exhibition stall during the official opening of the Trade Fair.
He was received by NWSC Senior Manager Public Relations, Ms. Vivien Newumbe, as he toured the exhibition and interacted with the Corporation’s team.During his visit, Hon. Tanna commended NWSC for its contribution to national development and pointed to the Corporation’s continued recognition for its work, including appreciation expressed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. He noted that Uganda has made progress in expanding access to essential services such as safe water, compared to previous years when many communities faced limited access. At the opening ceremony, Hon. Tanna also outlined Uganda’s ambition to achieve significant economic growth under the Fourth National Development Plan, highlighting agro-processing, tourism, mining, and science, technology and innovation as key areas of focus.
He further emphasised the importance of value addition, peace, the rule of law and a stable financial sector in supporting sustainable economic transformation. For NWSC, the award reinforces the message that water and sanitation extend beyond basic social services to become essential foundations for economic activity. By supporting healthy communities, productive businesses and growing urban centres, reliable water and sanitation services remain central to Uganda’s pursuit of a more productive, inclusive and economically secure future.
