Mayiga Backs Bold Stage Fashion, Urges Musicians to Stay Respectful Off the Mic

Buganda’s Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, has stirred discussion after expressing support for musicians who wear revealing outfits during performances. The influential cultural leader said stage dressing should not be overly criticized because it forms part of an artist’s performance and entertainment identity.
While speaking during an event linked to singer Karole Kasita and her upcoming concert, Mayiga explained that musicians operate in a competitive entertainment world where image, fashion, and performance style all matter.

He noted that artists often use stage outfits to attract audiences and strengthen their brand.
According to Mayiga, people should separate stage life from personal life. He emphasized that performers are entertainers whose job is to excite fans and deliver unforgettable experiences, adding that costumes and appearance are part of the overall show.
The Katikkiro stated that he personally sees nothing wrong with skimpy outfits during concerts or stage appearances. In his view, such fashion choices are acceptable within the entertainment space because they are connected to performance and artistic freedom.
Despite defending performers, Mayiga cautioned musicians against carrying the same style into their everyday lives.

He advised them to dress responsibly once they step away from concerts and public performances, reminding them that society still looks at them as influential public figures.
He further encouraged artists to maintain dignity and discipline beyond the spotlight. While entertainment may demand glamour and boldness, he believes personal conduct outside the stage should reflect maturity and respect for cultural values.

Mayiga has for years remained one of the strongest supporters of Uganda’s music industry, frequently attending concerts and publicly encouraging local talent. His comments once again highlight his willingness to stand with artists while also promoting social responsibility.
