Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Jonard Asiimwe has given a major financial boost to Muslim development projects in Hoima after donating Shs100 million towards the construction of Hoima Mosque and the completion of the Bunyoro-Tooro Muslim Regional Office. The money is expected to help purchase key building materials such as cement, tiles and paint, giving fresh momentum to construction works that have faced prolonged delays due to inadequate funding.

Asiimwe also committed to supporting other community projects, including the construction of a classroom block at Bwikya Primary School and the provision of computers to Bwikya Muslim Secondary School, as part of his wider efforts to support education and community development.Speaking about the donation, Asiimwe urged the committees managing the projects to maintain strict accountability and ensure that every shilling is spent on the activities for which it was donated. He also challenged community members to put aside divisions, arguing that unity is essential for attracting meaningful support and accelerating development. He said his contribution was intended to give back to the community and support projects with a direct impact on residents.

Hoima District Kadhi Sheikh Rajab Mugeny said the regional office remains an important project for the Muslim community, with its completion expected to strengthen coordination of development programmes benefiting more than 350,000 Muslims across the Bunyoro-Tooro region.Mugeny revealed that construction of the regional office started in 2020 and was projected to cost more than Shs400 million, but the project stalled after repeated fundraising efforts failed to raise sufficient funds. He thanked Asiimwe for helping to revive the long-running construction project. He further called for the completion of Hoima Mosque, saying its proximity to Hoima Stadium gives it added importance ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Mugeny said the mosque could serve Muslim players and visitors during the tournament, while Hoima City Mayor Edward Isingoma separately urged residents to maintain cleanliness as the rapidly growing city continues to attract new infrastructure and businesses.
