The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has announced a large-scale tree-planting event set for Thursday, 7 May 2026, in Kazo District. The initiative is part of celebrations marking the electoral victory of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the birthday of Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Organisers say the event, themed “A Billion Tree Planting Project Begins,” will focus on environmental conservation, climate action, and sustainable development. It is expected to draw PLU members, supporters, and members of the public to plant trees across designated areas in the district.According to PLU, the exercise is part of a wider effort to support national environmental restoration while also commemorating the two occasions.

The group has encouraged all members and well-wishers to take part, highlighting the initiative as a step toward promoting green growth and environmental awareness.“All roads will lead to Kazo District on 7 May,” organisers said, noting that the event will blend celebration with a practical environmental campaign. The activity will also mark President Museveni’s 99.71% vote share in Kazo District—one of his strongest performances nationwide—viewed by supporters as evidence of sustained grassroots backing. The programme continues Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s practice of celebrating personal milestones through community-oriented initiatives such as tree planting and charitable work, with this year’s effort aiming for broader public involvement under the Billion Tree Planting Project.
