Residents of Kakumiro Area are a step closer to benefiting from improved and more reliable water services as the proposed Kakumiro Water Supply Project moves towards the tendering stage. The project is being advanced by the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) as part of efforts to address the area’s persistent water supply challenges.A team from the NWSC Planning and Capital Development (P&CD) department visited Kakumiro to gather the final information needed to complete the project’s designs and prepare the tender documents.
The field exercise is expected to help ensure that the planned facilities are properly designed before construction work begins.During the visit, the officials inspected several sites that will form key components of the proposed water system. These included the planned water intake, water treatment plant, booster station and reservoir, which will play important roles in the production, treatment, pumping and storage of water. The team also collected additional technical and field data from the sites. The information will be incorporated into the final project designs and is expected to guide the preparation of accurate tender documents for contractors who will eventually be invited to bid for the works.Once completed, the project is expected to significantly strengthen water production and distribution in Kakumiro Area.
The planned infrastructure will improve the system’s capacity to pump, store and supply treated water to communities experiencing difficulties with reliable access to the service. The development comes at a time when access to dependable water remains an important priority for growing communities across Uganda. Improved water infrastructure is expected to support households, businesses, institutions and other users who depend on a stable supply for their daily activities.
The Kakumiro project is part of broader efforts by the Government of Uganda, through NWSC, to improve water supply systems across its areas of operation. The corporation is implementing and planning several water supply improvement projects aimed at increasing production capacity and making water services more dependable. With the technical assessment now advancing towards completion, Kakumiro is edging closer to a major upgrade of its water infrastructure. The completion of the designs and tender documents will pave the way for the next stage of the project, raising hopes among residents for a more reliable and sustainable water supply.
