As campaigns for Village Local Council (LC) leadership positions continue across Uganda, MEDI Foundation for Peace, Unity, Patriotism and Development Uganda has called on candidates, supporters, and voters to prioritize peace, unity, and responsible participation throughout the electoral process. The Foundation’s President, Kikomeko Muhammad Musa, urged all candidates contesting for Village LC positions to adhere to Electoral Commission guidelines and conduct peaceful campaigns that promote harmony within communities.
He emphasized that elections should provide an opportunity for candidates to share their ideas, visions, and solutions for community development rather than become a source of conflict, hate speech, or division.Kikomeko encouraged candidates to respect each other, avoid inflammatory language, and refrain from actions that could create tension among voters. He noted that leaders seeking public office must demonstrate integrity, tolerance, and respect for the communities they aspire to serve. The Foundation also appealed to supporters of different candidates to maintain discipline and avoid confrontations, intimidation, or any form of violence during the campaign period. Voters were encouraged to make informed decisions based on the ability, commitment, and leadership qualities of the candidates.Kikomeko further reminded Ugandans that maintaining peace is a collective responsibility. He said that political differences should not divide communities, adding that citizens must work together to protect Uganda’s stability and promote national development.
He warned that violence, hate speech, and acts of intolerance only weaken communities and undermine efforts aimed at improving people’s lives.MEDI Foundation called upon citizens to uphold patriotism, respect the rule of law, and accept the choices made through a peaceful democratic process. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and civic responsibility across Uganda. As Village LC elections draw closer, the Foundation’s message remains that peaceful participation, mutual respect, and responsible leadership are essential for building stronger communities and a united nation.
