Kampala Metropolitan Affairs Minister Minsa Kabanda has openly endorsed Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 2031 presidential ambitions, making her position clear during a visit to the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) National Chairman’s offices in Nakasero on Monday.Kabanda, who reportedly missed the Monday Cabinet meeting to attend the PLU engagement, challenged fellow ministers to stop treating support for Muhoozi as a political taboo.
She argued that ministers should be confident about publicly associating themselves with the Muhoozi Kainerugaba camp without fearing repercussions from President Yoweri Museveni. The minister dismissed concerns that President Museveni or First Lady Janet Museveni could regard support for their son as betrayal. According to Kabanda, there is no basis for ministers to believe that openly backing Muhoozi would create friction with the First Family or threaten their positions in government.Kabanda further claimed that Muhoozi’s political ambitions had previously been discussed during a Cabinet retreat in Kyankwanzi attended by President Museveni and Janet Museveni. She said the matter received a positive response and alleged that Janet Museveni had indicated her support for the political project surrounding her son.At the PLU offices, Kabanda was welcomed by David Daudi Kabanda, the Executive Assistant to Gen Muhoozi, who commended her for what he described as courage and clarity in publicly taking a position on the 2031 succession question.
David Kabanda said Minsa Kabanda has been entrusted with coordinating the Muhoozi endorsement drive across the Greater Kampala area, covering Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono. He also revealed plans for a major endorsement rally at Kololo Independence Grounds in December as the movement seeks to expand its political presence.Kabanda was handed a substantial number of Muhoozi endorsement forms and tasked with ensuring that the mobilisation exercise reaches villages and cells throughout Kampala.
She arrived at the meeting accompanied by youth and women mobilisers from her Kampala Division constituency and introduced them to the PLU leadership.Minsa Kabanda told the gathering that the mobilisation teams would be deployed to build grassroots support for Muhoozi and strengthen his political presence in Kampala. Her latest move adds momentum to the growing campaign by Muhoozi supporters seeking to position him for a presidential bid in 2031.
