The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Deputy Managing Director for Technical Services, Eng. Johnson Amayo, has inspected ongoing construction works under Package 2B of the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA) Water Supply Network Project, which is expected to improve water supply in several areas across Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono and Buikwe districts.

During his inspection of project sites along the Kira–Namugongo–Nsasa corridor, Amayo instructed the contractor to ensure that all areas affected by construction are properly restored to their original condition after the works are completed. The project involves the rehabilitation, restructuring, rezoning and extension of the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area water supply network. Its main goal is to expand water distribution and ensure that the growing population has access to a more reliable water supply.

The project is also intended to address the gap between the production capacity of the Katosi Water Treatment Plant and the increasing demand for water in Kampala and neighbouring areas. The Katosi plant has a production capacity of 160 million litres of water per day but currently operates at approximately 52 per cent of its capacity because of distribution network limitations.
