A heated public debate has surfaced in Uganda following the death of Member of Parliament Helen Nakimuli, with some members of the public calling for detailed information about her medical condition prior to her passing. The discussion has largely gained momentum on social media platforms, where users have been questioning the circumstances surrounding her death and demanding transparency from the medical facility that treated her.

At the center of the controversy is Alexandria Medical Centre, with some voices insisting that the hospital should disclose medical details explaining what led to Nakimuli’s passing. However, journalist Edris Kiggundu has strongly opposed these calls, arguing that they disregard fundamental principles of medical confidentiality and patient rights.Kiggundu noted that expectations for hospitals to release private medical information are not only inappropriate but also conflict with established ethical standards in healthcare.

He emphasized that patient privacy is protected under law, and that medical institutions are bound to keep such information confidential regardless of public pressure or speculation.

According to him, turning personal medical records into public discussion risks undermining trust in the healthcare system and violating the dignity of patients and their families. The debate continues to divide opinion, with some insisting on full disclosure while others support the call to respect privacy and allow the family to grieve without public intrusion.
