Preparations for the 2025 Kampala City Festival have gathered momentum after Uganda’s security agencies and major sponsors pledged full support for the highly anticipated celebrations scheduled for October 5 at Kololo Independence Grounds. The annual event is expected to draw thousands of revelers from across the country and beyond. The commitment was made during a high-level planning meeting held at City Hall, where KCCA Deputy Executive Director Benon Kigenyi met with the Director of Operations of the Uganda Police Force, AIGP Frank Mwesigwa. The meeting also brought together representatives from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, the Internal Security Organisation and other key security agencies.Kigenyi stressed that the Kampala City Festival has grown into a national celebration that transcends the capital. He said the event provides a platform for Ugandans to showcase culture, creativity and sustainability, adding that each edition must be better organised, safer and more inclusive than the last.He noted that beyond entertainment, the festival plays a significant role in boosting trade, tourism and social cohesion. For that reason, Kigenyi said, security planning is central to the success of the event, especially as KCCA seeks to balance Kampala’s youthful vibrancy with the city’s political, religious and academic diversity.AIGP Mwesigwa praised KCCA for the progress made in preparations and assured the authority of full security backing. He confirmed that specialised police units, including Counter Terrorism and traffic teams, will be deployed before and during the festival to ensure public safety and smooth movement. He reiterated that the Uganda Police Force is fully committed to working closely with KCCA and other agencies to deliver a safe, orderly and memorable experience for all attendees, noting that early coordination is key to managing large crowds.Festival Organising Committee chairperson Sheila Birungi welcomed the strong show of support from security agencies and sponsors, saying it reflects growing confidence in the event. She highlighted backing from partners such as Centenary Bank, the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development, China Railway 18th Bureau Group, Psalms Food Industries Ltd, NBS TV, Record Radio and BBS TV.The 2025 edition of the Kampala City Festival will feature a wide range of attractions, including a dedicated children’s area at Kololo, a medical camp, a Halal Village and a Christian fellowship point at Hotel Africana. Pre-festival activities will include tree planting, blood donation drives and community clean-up exercises, reinforcing KCCA’s vision of an inclusive celebration that blends fun with civic responsibility.
