Stanbic Bank Uganda, in partnership with Prudential Assurance Uganda Limited, has unveiled an enhanced Medi-Protect health insurance package aimed at improving access to affordable healthcare protection for individuals and families across Uganda. The upgraded solution introduces wider medical benefits, increased coverage limits and a new low-cost inpatient-only option designed to help more Ugandans protect themselves against expensive healthcare costs.

The initiative comes amid low health insurance coverage in the country, where many families continue to face financial pressure when dealing with illness and hospital bills.Speaking during the launch, Stanbic Bank Uganda Head of Personal Banking Israel Arinaitwe said the improved Medi-Protect package responds to growing demand for flexible healthcare solutions that match the needs and financial situations of different customers. He said the product reflects Stanbic’s commitment to its purpose of driving Uganda’s growth by supporting stronger and healthier communities.Prudential Uganda Chief Executive Officer Tetteh Ayitevie said medical emergencies often affect more than a person’s health because they can disrupt income, education expenses and household stability. He explained that the enhanced product gives customers more choices, whether they need basic hospital protection or comprehensive medical cover.

A major addition to the package is the inpatient-only cover, which provides affordable protection against major hospitalisation expenses. The option allows more Ugandans to access meaningful health insurance coverage while choosing a plan that fits their financial capacity and healthcare needs. The enhanced Stanbic Medi-Protect package includes benefits such as school fees support for up to four children, maternity care, dental and optical services, critical illness protection, life cover and total permanent disability benefits. The solution is designed to provide families with financial support during difficult periods caused by health challenges.Stanbic Bank Bancassurance Manager Dogo Singh said the upgraded product has significantly increased benefits, with selected coverage limits more than doubling.

Customers can now access comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical cover of up to UGX 200 million under the Platinum Plus package. The solution is available under three categories: Individual Cover, Family Shared Cover and Inpatient-Only Cover. Individual plans offer benefits ranging from UGX 30 million to UGX 200 million, while Family Shared Cover allows relatives to access healthcare benefits under one policy with flexible options for different household sizes. The newly introduced Inpatient-Only Cover starts at UGX 350,000 annually and provides hospitalisation benefits of up to UGX 100 million, alongside life cover, critical illness protection, disability benefits, last expense support and school fees assistance for children in case of the policyholder’s death. Stanbic Bank and Prudential Uganda said the improved Medi-Protect solution will help increase insurance uptake, strengthen financial resilience and make quality healthcare more accessible to Ugandan families.
