STATE HOUSE SHOWDOWN! Anita Among’s Speakership Shaken as Rolls-Royce Controversy Explodes

The political survival of Anita Among is increasingly hanging by a thread after reports emerged that she has been summoned to State House for a crucial meeting with President Yoweri Museveni. The high-level engagement, expected to take place in Entebbe, has triggered fresh speculation that major decisions could soon be made regarding the future leadership of Parliament.

For months, Among appeared secure after the ruling National Resistance Movement leadership endorsed her alongside Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa to continue steering the House. However, Museveni’s earlier remarks that the matter would be addressed “at the right time” left many insiders convinced that the final verdict on the Speakership had not yet been sealed.

Now, the storm surrounding Among has intensified dramatically following the Rolls-Royce saga that has dominated political conversations across Uganda. The luxury Rolls-Royce Cullinan reportedly linked to the Speaker sparked outrage among sections of the public, with critics questioning the message such extravagant wealth sends at a time when many citizens are battling economic hardship and unemployment.

The controversy took an even sharper turn after Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba entered the debate with unusually blunt remarks about corruption, public accountability, and leadership. While Muhoozi initially seemed to support Among’s continuation as Speaker, his later statements suggested growing discomfort within powerful political circles over the image and perception surrounding the office.

Muhoozi stunned many when he publicly remarked that despite being Museveni’s son for decades, he had never sat in a Rolls-Royce and doubted whether the President himself had ever used one. The comments quickly spread across social media and were widely interpreted as a subtle but calculated attack on leaders accused of living lavishly while ordinary Ugandans continue struggling to survive.

At the same time, Muhoozi intensified pressure by questioning Parliament’s spending habits and calling for leaders to focus more on service delivery than luxury. His message aligned closely with the growing rhetoric within the Patriotic League of Uganda, which has increasingly positioned itself as a voice demanding discipline, reform, and accountability within government institutions.

Behind the scenes, political calculations are reportedly shifting fast. Some insiders believe the unfolding tension could benefit Thomas Tayebwa, whose name is now emerging as a possible compromise candidate capable of calming divisions within the ruling establishment. Others suggest that a completely new face could still emerge if Museveni decides drastic political adjustments are necessary.

As the pressure continues building, all eyes are now fixed on the anticipated State House meeting that could either rescue Anita Among’s political career or mark the beginning of a major power shift within Uganda’s Parliament. With corruption allegations, public anger, and the symbolism of wealth dominating the conversation, the Speakership race has suddenly transformed into one of the country’s most unpredictable and explosive political battles.
