The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has facilitated a learning visit for School ICT Clubs to Kiira Motors Corporation, giving students an opportunity to explore how information and communication technology, computing and engineering are applied in modern vehicle manufacturing. The visit was organised ahead of the 10th National Conference on Communications (NCC2026), which is scheduled to take place on 24–25 September 2026 at Makerere University under the theme “Accelerating Market-Driven Research and Innovation for Uganda’s Development.”During the engagement, students were exposed to practical applications of technology in the automotive industry, including automation, sensors, computer-based systems and other innovations used in vehicle production.
UCC said the visit was aimed at helping learners connect classroom knowledge with real-world applications while encouraging interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. The engagement also highlighted the importance of stronger partnerships between academic institutions and industry players in preparing young people for Uganda’s growing research, innovation and technology sectors. At Kiira Motors, students gained insights into how digital systems and engineering solutions are combined to support the design and manufacturing of vehicles.UCC noted that such experiences help bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical skills by allowing students to interact with professionals and observe technology-driven industries.
The School ICT Clubs programme continues to provide learners with opportunities to understand the role of technology in solving real-life challenges and supporting national development. The upcoming NCC2026 will bring together stakeholders from the communications, technology, research and innovation sectors to discuss ways of promoting market-driven research and technological advancement in Uganda.Through initiatives such as the ICT Clubs visit, UCC continues to promote collaboration between schools, universities, industries and innovators as Uganda works towards building a technology-driven future.
