The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Public Sector Office has called on Buliisa District Local Government officials to strengthen tax compliance through accurate tax declarations, timely filing and payment of tax obligations, as well as proper use of the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS).The call was made during a stakeholder engagement held with Buliisa District Local Government, divisions, and sub-counties. The meeting brought together key officials including Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs), accountants, procurement officers, and Human Resource officers.Speaking during the engagement, Sandra Namatovu, Supervisor of the Public Sector Office – Local Government, highlighted the importance of ensuring that government payments are properly processed to avoid errors that may affect tax compliance.

Namatovu pointed out that some local governments make mistakes when initiating payments on IFMS, especially when selecting pay groups and tax types. She explained that some payments are wrongly classified, with Customs dues or Other Non-Tax Revenues (ONTRs) such as Local Service Tax sometimes being initiated as Pay As You Earn (PAYE) or other URA taxes. She urged local government officials to pay closer attention when using IFMS to ensure that the correct tax categories are selected during payment processing. Proper classification, she said, helps improve accountability and ensures accurate reporting of government transactions. The engagement is part of URA’s continued efforts to work with public institutions across the country to promote voluntary tax compliance, improve financial management practices, and strengthen coordination between the revenue body and government entities.
