The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), in partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), is giving young learners a platform to explore their creativity, develop innovative ideas and turn them into practical solutions for a better future. The initiative is being implemented under the WIPO K-12 Project, dubbed “Empowering Youth to Innovate for a Better Future,” which seeks to introduce young people to innovation while encouraging them to think creatively about challenges in their communities.

The first round of the coaching and innovation challenge is being hosted by The Olive School – Namugongo, bringing together young learners who are being encouraged to move beyond classroom learning and explore how their ideas can create meaningful solutions.Through the programme, learners are receiving an opportunity to develop their ideas, sharpen their problem-solving skills and understand how creativity and innovation can be transformed into solutions that respond to real-life challenges.URSB and WIPO are supporting the learners through coaching designed to help them understand the innovation process, from identifying problems and developing ideas to refining solutions and presenting their concepts.

The programme also highlights the importance of introducing intellectual property awareness to young people, helping learners appreciate the value of their creativity and the need to protect innovative ideas as they develop. The partnership reflects growing efforts to nurture a culture of innovation among young Ugandans by giving learners practical opportunities to experiment, create and believe that solutions to some of society’s challenges can begin with an idea developed in a classroom. With the first coaching and innovation challenge underway at The Olive School – Namugongo, URSB and WIPO are encouraging young minds to think boldly, create confidently and use innovation as a tool for building a better future.
