The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has launched a new Corporate Rescue and Aftercare Support Programme aimed at reducing the high rate of business failures in Uganda by helping entrepreneurs develop skills needed to build sustainable enterprises. The initiative, implemented through URSB’s Directorate of Insolvency and Receivership, seeks to address major challenges affecting businesses, including poor financial management, limited business knowledge, weak corporate governance structures, and inadequate planning.Uganda has been recognised as one of the most entrepreneurial countries globally, but many businesses struggle to survive beyond their early years.

The programme is designed to change this trend by equipping business owners with practical solutions to prevent collapse and promote recovery. The initiative supports the objectives of Uganda’s National Development Plan III, which emphasises strengthening the private sector by encouraging business growth, preventing insolvency, and creating an environment where enterprises can overcome financial difficulties.Speaking during the launch, Elimu Trust Eastern Africa Chief Executive Officer James Bulenzibuto encouraged entrepreneurs to embrace proactive approaches instead of waiting until businesses fail before seeking solutions.

He said the programme is focused on empowering business owners with knowledge, guidance, and tools that can help them make better decisions, improve operations, and create long-term success.Uganda Development Bank (UDB) Head of Advisory Department Barbara Kasekende advised entrepreneurs to handle borrowing carefully, noting that loans should support expansion and profitability rather than create additional financial pressure on struggling businesses. The Corporate Rescue and Aftercare Support Programme will provide training in financial management, corporate governance, business strategy, and legal rescue options while bringing together entrepreneurs, regulators, policymakers, experts, and academics to share knowledge and strengthen Uganda’s business community.
