The Buganda Kingdom has praised Elder Magala Tazzibwawo Balikyewunya for using social media to promote Buganda’s history, educate the public and defend the institution of the Kabaka.Magala was received at Bulange Mengo by Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, who said the responsibility of building a stronger and more prosperous Buganda should not be carried by Kingdom leaders alone.Mayiga said every Muganda has a duty to contribute to the advancement of the Kingdom according to their abilities and position in society.

He described Magala’s work as an important contribution to efforts aimed at strengthening Buganda. The Katikkiro specifically commended Magala for using his social media platforms to share information about Buganda’s past and to speak in defence of the Kabaka and the Kingdom’s institutions.Mayiga also urged people who use social media to be responsible with the information they publish. He advised them to conduct proper research and verify facts before sharing information, warning that spreading unverified claims can have legal consequences. He further cautioned against insults, abusive language and reckless statements online, noting that social media can increase a person’s influence but can equally damage their reputation when misused.

Magala thanked the Kingdom for recognising the efforts of ordinary people and creating space for them to contribute to the preservation and promotion of Buganda’s identity. Minister of Information, Mobilisation and Kingdom Spokesperson Israel Kazibwe Kitooke said the ministry had been following the work of social media communicators and recognised Magala’s growing collection of educational material about Buganda.

Magala attended the engagement with several prominent figures, including musicians Mesarch Ssemakula, Ronald Mayinja and Kazibwe Kapo, as well as Princess Amira. His recognition highlights the growing role of social media in preserving Buganda’s history and connecting the Kingdom with a new generation.
