Minister of Local Government Balaam Barugahara has firmly defended the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), praised Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s leadership, and issued a stern warning to corrupt public officials, saying a major government crackdown is imminent.Speaking during an interview on Sanyuka TV, Balaam described PLU as a civic movement that has evolved beyond a simple project into a structured program supporting government efforts to eliminate corruption, theft of public resources, and lawlessness.

He emphasized that the organization remains committed to promoting accountability and patriotism. The minister hailed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the leader of PLU and Chief of Defence Forces, as a disciplined and patriotic leader whose commitment to national service continues to inspire many Ugandans. According to Balaam, Muhoozi’s leadership is grounded in humility, discipline, and a willingness to listen to others.Addressing controversy surrounding Muhoozi’s social media activity, Balaam challenged those who claim the general personally writes every post published on his X account.

He questioned the basis of such allegations and argued that critics have not provided any concrete evidence to support their claims. His remarks come at a time when PLU’s increasing visibility in national affairs continues to attract both support and criticism. The organization has frequently been linked to discussions about Uganda’s future political direction, particularly amid ongoing public debate over succession politics and emerging power centers within the ruling establishment.Balaam also delivered one of his strongest messages yet on corruption, warning that government agencies are preparing decisive action against individuals involved in mismanagement and theft of public resources.

He declared that the era of impunity was coming to an end and urged public servants engaged in corrupt practices to prepare for serious consequences. The minister further called upon accountability institutions, particularly the Inspectorate of Government, to intensify their efforts against graft. He revealed that hundreds of civil servants could face arrest or interdiction in the coming weeks as part of a wider campaign to restore integrity and efficiency within public service.

Defending the recent Kyankwanzi Ministers’ Retreat, Balaam dismissed allegations of extravagance and misuse of public funds, insisting the retreat was conducted modestly and responsibly. He also praised President Yoweri Museveni as a highly knowledgeable and experienced statesman while dismissing reports of divisions within PLU, maintaining that leadership changes within the organization are routine assignments rather than signs of internal conflict.
