The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), led by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has continued to widen its organisational footprint after assigning new Patriotic Officer (PO) numbers to a fresh group of senior government officials. The latest allocations have drawn attention to the movement’s growing structure and its increasing visibility within Uganda’s political space. In the most recent list, Speaker of Parliament Jacob Marksons Oboth Oboth was designated PO 059, while Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa received PO 060.
Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs Kiryowa Kiwanuka was also included, taking PO 061, placing them among the latest high-profile figures linked to the PLU ranking system. The announcement was shared on Saturday by PLU Secretary General Fadil Twalla via his official X account. He indicated that the designations had been approved by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, describing them as recognition for members who have contributed to the movement’s objectives and expansion. The Patriotic Officer numbering system has gradually become one of PLU’s most recognisable features. Structured in a sequential format, it mirrors a disciplined, almost military-style hierarchy that has often been compared to historical organisational traditions within Uganda’s armed political movements.
Alongside the parliamentary leadership, several Cabinet ministers were also assigned new PO numbers in the same rollout. These include Anifa Bangirana Kawooya as PO 062, Dr Charles Ayume as PO 063, and Phiona Nyamutooro as PO 064, all serving in different ministerial portfolios. The list further extends to Beatrice Akello Akori (PO 065), Lydia Wanyoto Mutende (PO 066), Paul Komol Lotte (PO 067), Jovia Katusiime (PO 068), Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua (PO 069), and Thomas Lomuria Abong (PO 070), showing an expanding circle of officials connected to the movement.
Over time, PLU has shifted from a mobilisation-oriented platform into a more structured political network with national outreach activities, youth engagement programmes, and participation from a growing number of influential leaders in government and public service. The latest round of appointments highlights the continued consolidation of that network around General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as more senior figures are formally integrated through the Patriotic Officer ranking system, reinforcing the movement’s presence within Uganda’s broader political landscape.
