Just days after being elected LC1 chairperson of Bamutakude Village in Mukono District, veteran journalist Solomon Serwanjja has already started pushing for development projects aimed at improving the lives of residents.

Serwanjja, who was among thousands of Ugandans elected during the recent LC1 elections, secured support for a clean and safe water project for the people of Bamutakude.

The development has attracted attention from residents and social media users, with some praising his quick response to community challenges and comparing his efforts to those of elected leaders at higher levels.

Ugandans went to the polls on July 28, 2026, to choose LC1 chairpersons across more than 71,000 villages across the country.

In Bamutakude Village, residents chose Serwanjja, a respected journalist known for his work in media, to lead them as their local council chairperson.

Shortly after his victory, Serwanjja began engaging different stakeholders to find solutions to challenges affecting the community.

One of his first steps was meeting with Salam TV and Salam Charity Managing Director Hajji Kaliisa to present his development plans for Bamutakude.

During the meeting, Serwanjja shared his vision for transforming the village through projects focused on improving livelihoods, promoting self-sustainability and supporting community development.

He also discussed possible partnerships with Salam Charity through the Smart Village Initiative, which focuses on empowering communities through various development programmes.

Following the discussions, Salam Charity agreed to support Bamutakude residents by helping them access clean and safe water.

The commitment is expected to address one of the challenges affecting many communities where residents struggle to access reliable sources of safe water.

Serwanjja welcomed the support, saying partnerships between leaders and organisations can create meaningful change at the grassroots level.

“Together we shall make the difference in the lives of our people,” Serwanjja said after the engagement.

Residents of Bamutakude expressed optimism that the new leadership would bring positive changes to the village.

Many community members said they hope the water project will improve sanitation, reduce the burden of searching for water and improve the general wellbeing of families.

Observers noted that Serwanjja’s early engagements show the importance of local leaders actively seeking partnerships to solve community problems.

They argued that effective leadership is not only measured by political positions but also by the ability to identify challenges and find practical solutions.

The former journalist has now shifted from media work into grassroots leadership, where he is expected to represent the interests of Bamutakude residents.

His first days in office have created expectations among residents who hope his leadership will bring more development initiatives to the area.

The clean water project marks the beginning of what many hope will be a new chapter for Bamutakude Village.

As Serwanjja continues serving his community, residents will be watching how his plans translate into action and long-term improvements.
